Soft Quilt Finished... election sigh of relief ... hexie update

Ahhhhh the election is over, and wow, what a slog that was.
David and I are so happy with this outcome.  A decent human being in the Oval Office again, with Kamala Harris by his side!  Empathy, science, social justice, inclusion, cooperation, and did I mention decency.   And, hopefully a return to greater respect for the U.S. around the world?

In the weeks leading up to the election, I got serious about finishing the hand quilting on my "Soft Quilt for Hard Times".  I put the last stitches in on Saturday.  And Sunday morning middle of the night (our time in Japan) we awoke to the good news.

My whole point with this quilt was to make something easy and straightforward - a "spring palette" log cabin variation - a quilt I've made many times.   I guess the challenge with this was staying engaged and finishing it!  Lots of news, and Netflix.  I can recommend the limited series "The Queen's Gambit" - it was excellent.

I'm not sure this quilt feels like "mine" (is it the lack of indigo?) - I will tuck it away and decide that later.

Meanwhile, I am going gangbusters on my ongoing handwork project - Liberty Hexies.  These are large, two-inch hexies.  It is so fun to sew them into flowers.  I'm trying to include a lot of green and aqua.  Super scrappy.

Two, almost three rows finished:

This is (usually) my TV watching spot:

Can I just say.... what would I do without quilting???  I am so grateful for it!!

  2. Happy here too, now if the obstructionists will get out of the way so Biden can start the transition. We love The Queen's Gambit too.

  4. Joy! Relief. I loved your words about the election. NO mention of party or B/R states, just goodness and decency. thank you friend. I think your log cabin is wonderful. Perfect for spring/summer maybe without your beloved indigo.
    lovely hexies!
I've watched 3 episodes of the Queen's Gambit and I love it. It is hard to quilt to because the scenery is so fabulous and I adore that time period.

  6. Your 'Soft Quilt for Hard Times' is lovely - such a peaceful palette. Funny that you would say that you aren't certain that it is 'yours'...I just finished a flimsy and I feel the same way. Maybe once it's quilted. If not, there's always lots of good homes to send it to.

  7. Soft Quilt for Hard Times is beautiful, so gentle, so evocative of our wishes for the future. I am not a fan of hexagons but yours look crisp and lovely.

Yes we are blessed to be involved in an interesting, absorbing craft during this very hard year, hard times.

  9. Great finish! You really pulled that off quickly, My Coronaville is now ready to sandwich, but I need to go to Kamata for batting. Norie called for me and they do have #80 thinsulate in stock. I am thankful to have work for my hands to do when the news gets frustrating.

  10. I am relieved too! I couldn't even watch the news the last few days (and the first few days) of the election. I am hoping and praying that the transition will go easier than forecast... We have enough problems in this world without adding man-made ones!
