Yokohama Quilt Festival, part two - senseis and Viva Mexico

Part two, with more quilts to share.

This charming quilt (I love love love the timeless color scheme) is by Yasuko Kuraishi-sensei, a friend of Julie's.

Just as charming as can be with the simple whimsical dogwood applique:

Carin and I met another quilt sensei friend of Julie's, Chikako Ueno, who created this spot-on Emily Dickinson quilt, as part of a very interesting quilt project whereby quilters from France, Japan, and the U.S. depicted poetry or poets.

One highlight from the festival was this exuberant exhibit of quilts from Mexico:

It was lovely to meet the artist Sonia Flores Ruiz - who created several quilts in the exhibit, including the following tribute to her family.

She even incorporated part of her mother's actual rosary into the quilt:

I loved this one so much!  I had already seen it before we met Sonia, and it's only now I realize she created it.  I wish we'd been able to hear her thoughts on it.  I see women's friendship, cooperation, work, hospitality.
