Quilts at Kaela's, baby Charlotte, quarantine in Tokyo

This Fall Festival Quilt (Jan Patek design) was in full use during my time at Kaela and Joe's in Texas.

Tommy visited from college in Utah and Noelle visited from North Carolina.  I always knew Tommy was visiting, but Noelle's visit was a total surprise - the best surprise!  We all missed David and had him on FaceTime for long stretches at a time.

Uncle Tommy bonding with Charlotte:

I brought my Hartwell Stars quilt from Tokyo, to store at Kaela's temporarily.

Mighty Zeus:

And I washed Kaela and Joe's wedding quilt to freshen it up.  It makes me so happy to see that my quilts are really used and enjoyed.

Winter Quilt (blocks are from another Jan Patek design) which needed a little repair,

And I was so happy to see how nicely Charlotte's baby quilt has washed up.  I really think quilts like this get better and better over time.

Aunt Noelle getting to know Charlotte:

Minnie the best dog ever:

Plenty of great tacos in Austin.  All take-out.  Glad to see Kaela and Joe taking social distancing very seriously.

Hard to say farewell to this sweet little family but, it was time to get back home to David!

A 24 hour journey home, with quite a process at the airports with a ton of paper work, two COVID tests,  slow lines, waiting, stress.

Now I'm five days in to my two-week mandatory quarantine. However just a few minutes ago I heard from a friend in the know, that I am allowed to take solo walks outside during quarantine.  I'm so relieved!

(There's a mascot for everything in Japan!!)

How I feel with jet lag, ha ha:

  1. What a lovely post with so many beautiful family photos. Charlotte is such a pretty baby girl.
How fun to visit so many of your quilts.
I too adore a well washed quilt. The softer the better for baby.
So where are you quarantined? I am happy to hear that you can go outside. two weeds a long time, but you'll be over the jet lag :) I listened to a new podcast - 13 minutes to the moon. It is a BBC production.

  2. I'll bet David was glad to have you back but it must have been hard to say goodbye to the kids and that precious new grandbaby. When I give quilts away, I never know if they will be used. It must be nice to see your work being appreciated.

  3. What a beautiful baby and such a joy to hold her. We hope to visit our new grandbaby in California in January, we plan to drive the four days to avoid flying. So glad we have that option.

  4. I'm glad you got to see your children and grandchild - must have been a nice visit. the 24 hour trip back to Japan doesn't sound fun in the least and now quarantine but it was worth it wasn't it.

  7. Oh, what a bundle of chunky sweetness! So happy that you had this chance to see your family, and see the love they have for each other and your quilts. I so remember boarding the plane for the west coast after each "first visit" with a new grandbaby, how tearful and sad not knowing when the next opportunity would come. I'm so thankful now to be able to see any of them within 2 hours or so, not a full day's travel. Nice that you're able to go out for a walk now, hopefully your weather is still nice there.

  8. Such happy photos! What a cutie pie! I cannot imagine how hard it was to leave them. Things will get better and you will be visiting more often, but in the meantime it is tough I am sure. Your quilts do look so warm and inviting in their home. Enjoy your downtime. And, get some rest!

  14. Welcome back. Thank you for the update on staying with your granddaughter. I am still making plans... How did your husband feel about being left out of the family gathering? I'm sort of sad that Tetsu probably won't join me this trip and I think he'll be really lonely knowing he can't hold his first grandchild while I am enjoying the first weeks...

You have some beautiful children and grandchild. (and son-in-law) Good job!

Love the star quilt too! It looks beautiful on the bed!

  17. Oh, your granddaughter is a little sweetheart. I'm so glad you had the opportunity to have a prolonged visit with your family. I really enjoyed seeing all your quilts. The Winter Quilt is very intriguing. What pattern is that? And the tacos make me so hungry for REAL Mexican food. Sorry you had to have those uncomfortable Covid tests. Once was enough for me. But, I guess, in the long run, it was all worth it.

  18. I think the baby is cuter than the quilts! But the quilts are very good too. I would like to see more of the Winter quilt. Looks like it would be a good one.
