Each year the Tokyo Quilt Festival includes a roundup of charity quilts, each made up of many 15cm x 15cm blocks donated by individuals. Last year's theme was "My Favorite Animal" and this year's theme is Love the Earth.
I kept procrastinating but the other day I came up with an idea, didn't overthink it, and just did it. You know?
My block is very abstract but here was my thinking:
- Globe shape(s).
- Aizome (indigo) background - indigo is an enduring gift from Mother Nature.
- Green Japanese chirimen fabric has an ocean waves motif.
- The large circles are Liberty prints - and if you look closely at the orange one, you see tiny creatures. Let's take care of this planet for our sakes and for every little creature.

With the 2021 show canceled, I wonder how these quilts will be made and auctioned.
A bit of Mother Nature in the city on a windy rainy day. Sitting at one of our favorite little restaurants, Hainan Jeefan Shokudo, al fresco, almost. We were seated inside, but right up against what would be the floor to ceiling window, now open air. Sheltered from the wind, but so much fresh air. Such a treat.

Cynthia
I love your block, Cynthia. It does evoke planets in a deep blue sky. And what a lovely, cozy setting for dining. We haven't done that yet (dine out) and I'm really missing the occasional break from my mediocre cooking.
ReplyDeleteWee I love your block for the roundup.
ReplyDeleteIt is elegant, simple and has a lot of symbolic importance.
and I love circle blocks - so yay!
what a nice little spot for a dinner out :)
What a beautiful block with the perfect sentiment. So nice that you can participate even though "the show will not go on". Houston finally cancelled as well. I am so happy that you are able to get out and enjoy a meal in safety and in the open air. I am amazed at the ingenuity of some of our restaurant owners in adapting their spaces for diners. We haven't ventured out yet, but we are oh so close to caving in!
ReplyDeleteWonderful fabrics in your Love the Earth block. What a cozy intimate place to enjoy a meal! We haven't been out locally yet only an occasional take-out which is fine with me.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely block, SO Japanese and so appropriate.
ReplyDeleteAs NHK are still accepting these Partnership blocks, something will come out of them, even if the show itself is cancelled next year.
Queenie
A beautiful block with so much meaning. Simply elegant. How nice that you are able to dine out again, we've not ventured out to do that yet, but often get the local restaurant's fish fry Friday takeout and bring it home to eat. We feel fortunate to have our little country home, away from it all, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI think your block is perfect--very thoughtful and striking! Hopefully next year we will be back to some normalcy!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully creative block that really fits that theme! Well done!
ReplyDeleteSince March I've only been out for eye exam and dentist appt and that's all right with me!
I love this happy block...You did think it...just not overthink it...and the lovely little cafe...oh, my!! A lovely window in a dark time
ReplyDeleteI'm a "circle-aholic" and am always drawn to circle designs - yours seems just right for its purpose. So sad all the big shows are cancelled. Glad you got to eat out - I miss that!
ReplyDeleteLove the symbolism of your block. Simple with a big statement.
ReplyDeleteYour Love the Earth block is so clever. Very nice visual effect.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cozy little place to be tucked in for a meal.
I love your block and the thinking behind it. Partnership is more than just quilts and thinking of the occasion to enjoy them together, both warms my heart and makes me a bit sad that we will miss it in the coming year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect little block for the theme, Cynthia. I love it and your choices!
ReplyDeleteSometimes making quickly and not overthinking is a big thrill. Love the fabrics you chose for the block. Very sweet.:)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for getting your block made! It is very fitting and has a lot for the eyes to enjoy. Yes.... what is going to happen to all these blocks with the quilt show cancelled... Can the committee even get the blocks all organized into quilts with social distancing the norm these days?
