Finally made it to Nippori, or Fabric Town, last week. I joined up with Julie W, who was looking for a quilt binding. Julie is in Japan only part time, so it's always nice to catch up.
This gives you an idea how narrow the aisles are in Tomato:
Have never noticed African fabrics here before:
It's true. Small happiness brings more. An errand to the fabric district with a good friend makes for a good day.
How cute are these patchwork bags?
I left wondering why I was so stressed about not being able to bring my whole fabric stash from the U.S. to Japan. I think I will be OK here for the next three years, ha ha.
In other news, we are smack dab in the middle of rainy season. It hasn't been too hot, which is nice.
Two different travelers on a Saturday (that's David on the left, confirming that we are at the right bus stop):

Before you spend money on more fabric, you'd better come over and see what you can rescue from my recent rescue. I hope you are finally able to settle in.
ReplyDeleteWow--this brings back so many memories. I was so turned around in that place, just trying to get to Tomato Fabrics, but what fun once I discovered it! Thanks for the photos.
ReplyDeleteMy husband & I visited Japan some years ago to stay with my BIL & his wife, too bad my BIL's wife isn't into patchwork, the only fabric shop we had a fleeting visit to was Blue & White.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see posts about your time in Japan. The Fabric shop reminds me of Mood in NYC small and narrow. I LOVE the cat fabric!
ReplyDeleteNeat sculpture out on the street and I like the sign "unique & attractive" Sanrio (hello kitty) was based on the "small gift means more" theory. I like it.
I hope you have a fun umbrella for the rainy season.
we missed you in VT
I love that you are sharing your adventures while in Japan. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love this post...Fabric Town...wow...African fabric...wow...even yellow bag...love it all.
ReplyDeleteHow do even know where to begin looking.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. That looks like wonderful place to gather fabric.:)
ReplyDeleteI would be delirious with all the new and different fabric choices!
ReplyDeleteI love all the sights you have shared here. That fabric store looks like it would give me system overload!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, what a treat to visit such a full fabric shop! If visiting I would certainly have to restrain myself. Did you buy any fabric? Do you have space for fabric?
ReplyDeleteAnd rainy season -- does it rain all day and night or only for an hour or two during the day or evening? We lived in El Salvador for a while and were told it rained all the time during the rainy season. Our experience was that it usually rained in the evening or during the night with occasional downpours at other times.
Before you buy any fabric, you had better check the stash I got from a friend. The price is right ;-)
