Catching up! - baby quilts - August and September

The past four months have passed in a flash. Here is a quick catch-up about August and September!

Over the summer I worked on a couple of baby quilts for Noelle's baby Chloe -

At the end of July David and I drove up to Maine for a week in Ogunquit with our kids and grand daughters.

The summer flew by!

Then at the end of August we drove BACK up to Massachusetts to spend the whole month of September based there.  Yup, we were so hopeful about the election:

It was wonderful to reconnect with some dear friends, and the place we still feel is "home" in so many ways.  Still, "you can't go home again" sort of resonates.

While in MA, the most astonishing thing happened. Someone contacted me on Ancestry with a very strong DNA match, and it turns out I have a half-aunt, about my age - my Grandmother had had a baby and gave her up for adoption, later in life, completely privately and no one knew for all of these years. It has been an absolute joy and pleasure to get to know Pam, my "aunt", who is the spitting image of my grandmother, her birth mother!

One of many Zoom calls we've had with Pam (top left) in Colorado, and her newfound family members in North Carolina, Ohio, and Ireland!

In Massachusetts I also worked on a couple of baby quilt tops for great-nieces due in the coming months:

I will do another post about quilty things seen during our time in New England, so stay tuned for that!  (If anyone is reading blogs anymore, lol).

  1. You have had such a busy last few months. The family photo is very sweet! I too was very hopeful about the election and I’m frightened about the chaos ahead. Your little quilts are sweet and I am sure they will be treasured.

    1. Thank you Pamela. Yes, chaos is a good word. I'm hoping the damage can be contained...

  2. I'm reading--when life slows down a minute now and then.
Love those "non-conventional" (as my daughter would say--that's what she asked for) baby quilts.
You've been getting around, and to states I love to visit!
Yeah, we were hopeful, too. Go figure.
What an incredible story about your "half-aunt". So cool that you have connected with her.
So good of you to make quilts for the great-nieces. I don't even get them made for my nieces.
Good to hear from you, Cynthia!

    1. Thank you Janet! I think I may be back in the blogging groove;). Baby quilts are relatively fast and so it's so nice to have a "finish" that doesn't take a year, lol.

  3. Sounds like you had a wonderful visit in MA!!
I was hopeful about the election, too--now I feel like we are about to enter the "Dark Ages" of our Country's life;(((
Your quilts are so pretty--softly colored and comfy looking;)))
I also wonder at the low numbers of blog posts these days--I don't do social media sites at all and I do love that you can write as much (or little haha) as you like on blogs...
    Take care hugs, Julierose

    1. Julierose, thanks for visiting. Yes I like that too about blogs - it feels like a journal, and following/commenting on blogs feels a bit like pen pals.

  4. Well, I certainly still read blogs! I am delighted to hear from you and that all is well. I was worried about you as I saw the devastation in NC. Good to know you were safe and sound and had a wonderful trip.
You have indeed been busy with quilting, playing with the grandkids and getting acquainted with your newly found half-aunt.
I went to a quilt show recently. Unfortunately neither Julie nor Pamela were able to attend. You were also more than missed. One sees so much more with several pairs of eyes.

    1. Queenie! Thank you. The devastation was in western NC. The cleanup continues. I wish I could have gone to the quilt show with you! Hard to believe it's been almost a year since I visited Tokyo! Hope you are staying warm.

  5. I definitely still read blogs. They are so much more detailed than a quick Insta post.

  6. I still enjoy reading blogs every morning with my first cup of coffee, but over time, several of my favorite writers have dropped out for various reasons. Instagram has filled the gap, but isn’t quite as satisfying. The election results were deeply troubling, but I am holding on to hope that the damages can be contained. Enjoying friends and family, sewing, playing music, and walks in the woods are keeping me grounded. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!!

    1. Gladi, that is a nice idea, a routine of checking blogs in the morning. I do love Instragram too but I know what you mean. Your walks in the woods are lovely any time of year and I enjoy your photographs on your blog!
