Quilts at the Worcester Historial Museum part 1

Patchwork doll bed quilt, circa 1870, collection of Worcester Historical Museum, Worcester MA

Last month I spent a day with ladies from the New England Quilt Study Group (we are a subset of the AQSG) exploring quilts at the Worcester Historical Museum.

We started with a wonderful curator-led walk through the exhibit:

The exhibit was called Quilts: Practical Pieces so I knew immediately it would speak to me -

This first one is for you Wendy - potholder all the way!

And how about this awesome display of little doll quilts:

I kept going back to it.

Just so many cool quilts - I will post a couple more tomorrow -

The show is on until August 25 and if you find yourself in Worcester MA, it's worth a visit!

  1. What a gorgeous display of antique quilts. The doll quilts are a study in themselves. And the hexagon quilt a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing your photos. It will be great to see more especially for those us who live much to far away.

  2. Nice to see those elderly products in such good shape. Because of mordants in some dye, my great grandmother's quilt has some patches rotting away.

  6. Thanks so much for sharing these quilts, Cynthia. Your photographs are wonderful! In addition to the fun of seeing the whole quilts, it's interesting to see close-ups of the fabrics and prints. It puts reproduction prints in a new light.
