visiting my kids

Last week I flew to Utah to help settle Tommy into his student housing.

Oh, how I love the mountains!  The dry air... and the general ease of life in the West.

Tommy will have Sunday dinners with his aunt and uncle and family who live nearby.  What a blessing!

I then flew to Austin Texas to visit daughter #2, Kaela, and husband Joe.

On the agenda - starting this t-shirt quilt for Joe, who swam in college (hence the fantastic collection of t-shirts).

You know the drill - stabilize the t-shirts with some Pellon featherweight - and the rest of the puzzle will be solved by Kaela!  This is only about half the t-shirts, so I think some will be eliminated or used on the back:

Austin was greener than I'd expected.  Big sky, sunny, artsy, friendly, awesome! And... tacos!

Still, a world away from Massachusetts and it's hard to think of Kaela so far away.  What a big and diverse country we have!

My grandma would have been upset to see a dog on a quilt, but I think it's cute (because I quilted it by machine for sturdiness!).  This is mighty Zeus!

Kaela and I stopped by a little quilt shop to consider backings for the t-shirt quilt, and I couldn't resist picking up a few fat quarters.  They had a lot of nice low volume prints.

And no visit is complete without having Kaela cut my hair - what a treat!

Quilters see quilts everywhere..... am I right? ;)

And it is good to be back home, even though it's chilly and cloudy.  Let's call it cozy!

  1. Glad you had the chance to visit your kiddos and mix in some quilting. I like the new low volumn fabrics you picked out.
