She brought this cute top she had made...
We picked out fabric for borders, backing, and binding...
We pin basted it to death... resulting in NO puckers...
And then... she immediately started in on quilt #2 - a log cabin. This kid just might be hooked!
Spending time with a dear sweet niece... while passing on a love of quilting to a new generation... well... that is my happy place!
What a pleasure to quilt with young rellies and share a passion!
ReplyDeleteIt really was!
DeleteWhat fun to share your passion (and fabric).
ReplyDeleteYes, and to my surprise she prefers traditional and reproduction fabrics over brights - so my stash works for her;).
DeleteGreat memories being made! Well done Alyssa, a wonderful first quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny - she did a great job - I was so proud of her!
DeleteOh what fun! It is always great to quilt with young people. She will always remember this special time.
ReplyDeleteIt was so memorable for me too. With texting and FaceTime it will be possible to help her with the next project - but there's no substitute for being together in the same sewing space!
DeleteMaking memories and passing on a great tradition. What could be better.:)
ReplyDeleteOh what fun! I am slightly jealous of you in this moment... I wish my daughter would sew with me. Your niece has the most beautiful smile and I bet it has something to do with spending this precious time with you. Her quilt turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sujata and I wish I had snapped a photo of her practicing your free form techniques as a warm to learn my machine!
DeleteLovely post. I like your niece's smile when holding her finished first quilt. Joy!
