Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival - part four - contest quilts

Just a few more favorites from the show!  Julie (My Quilt Diary), Carin (Queeniepatch), and Tanya (Taniwa) have a better eye towards the traditional quilts, and it's really worth checking out their blog posts!  You can find them in my sidebar!  They also have a much better shot at translating the Japanese names and quilt titles.

In these categories, there was no English on the cards.

How's this for a house quilt (?!)

"I Live on Earth" by ______?

"Life" by _____?  Wish I'd taken more photos.  I loved this one.

I think this went together "potholder" style - what do you think?

"Ariki Street" by Chikaku Ueno, one of Julie F's friends:

The narrowest of sashing, and most beautiful quilting:

"Be at the crossroads" by _____?   I think it has a "boro" look, but neat and sharp.  And the persimmon color is so important.

Inventive machine quilting:

"Mother's Everyday" by _____?  A young mom's day, in chronological order.

"Happy Village" by Nam KyungSook

This whimsical alphabet quilt is in a "taupe" style.

Pieces of Dreams by Yang GyeongMi:

So traditional, and so special.  Each little block is a small masterpiece,

And the variegated hexagon border is so special:

Another one in the traditional category - just amazing - so carefully planned out, to get the colorful interlocking rings:

Just look at all this embroidery!

There you have it!  What a week - the best.  I'm measuring my time in Japan by "how many more Tokyo Dome Quilt Shows will I see?" - two or three;).   Time to recover a bit and turn to my own simple projects.
