Flags of the American Revolution - stars

We are winding down with this quilt-along hosted by Lori of Humble Quilts.  More stars this month. Japanese indigo as background, shirting reproduction for the stars.  I worked on this during our recent trip to London, there and back.

I'm trying to fix my little 'value problem' with the center block.

See what I mean?! The disappearing Eagle...

Sashiko thread and a simple backstitch to the rescue, sort of...

Meanwhile David just got back from Japan an hour ago, Tommy has the Super Bowl streaming on line (go Pats!)... there's a fire in the wood stove... and more snow on its way tonight!  School is already canceled for tomorrow - quilting time;).

Quilting buddies of the blogosphere, I hope wherever you are, you are warm and cozy and enjoying the company of loved ones.

Just for fun... Daisy examining the Burgoyne Surrounded...

  1. Snow outdoors makes for cosy family time indoors!
I think the backstitch will save the eagle.

  3. Love the background fabric you used for your stars. Outlining the eagle with a backstitch looks terrific! Great idea :)

  4. Daisy is so sweet!

Great blocks and I hope the backstitch around makes you like it better. I don't think it looks quite so lost when it isn't black and white. Either way, I like it.

  5. In color, your eagle block looks fine. Interesting how it disappears in black and white. Your solution a good one.

  6. Good call on the backstitch. You'll have to show pictures of the finished eagle. I bet it will really pop.

  7. Everyone at home where they belong is nice. =) The sashiko thread is something I wouldn't have thought of, but I was thinking some kind of embroidered outline, so close enough. ;)

  8. How clever you are in your idea to fix your eagle. It's crazy it does disappear in black and white.
I'm digging through my stash this morning (making a total mess) looking for the right fabric to do those last Star & Moon setting blocks!

  9. Have just caught up with you here! :-)
A good trick for checking value! We are in summer here, have had lovely weather except yesterday which turned v cold and I was forced to fire up the heating. Fortunately the sun is back today and I'm building an outside wood oven, so no time for sewing at the moment...

  10. I never would have guessed that eagle would disappear like that. The stitching is a good idea.
